Climate Smart Cocoa
This website is designed to guide anyone working with smallholder cocoa production to identify relevant areas of engagement and investment in smallholder adaptation to climate change. You will find all the resources you need to understand climate-related risks of cocoa production and to guide you to action on the ground in one place.
Where should you start? There are multiple entry points from where to start CSC actions. We’ve divided them in 3 areas: practices, system approaches and enabling environments for climate-smart cocoa.
As part of the CSC approach, farmers should have the tools and capacity to reduce the impact of potential hazards, supplement incomes during lean periods, and resume production after extreme climatic events. Check the most common hazards and how to confront them.
Which steps are essential to identify relevant areas of engagement and investment in smallholder adaptation to climate change? The success of Climate-Smart Cocoa projects hinges on several context-specific factors, opportunities, and barriers.
How is the climate changing in cocoa regions? Adaptation to climate change is site specific. Identify climate changes that already manifest to date, future climate projections and important deforestation events in your cocoa production region. A rapid assessment of climatic changes will guide your interventions.
